US REPRESENTATIVE

LAMAR SMITH

VISITS US!

Saturday morning, June 24th, we received an exciting phone call!

U.S. Representative Lamar Smith, one of our Ranch Board Members called and told us that he was coming out to visit us with his daughter, Nell! I quickly called Kinky and when I told him that Lamar was going to visit us around two o'clock, Kinky told me he couldn't wait to to see his good friend, Lamar and that he would be at the ranch about one thirty and would also be bringing some friends with him, who were interested in adopting two of our Super Dogs!

Kinky showed up promptly at one-thirty with his friends, Chuck, Rosie and Gerald. Kinky then gave them a tour of the ranch and they all told us that they loved it. Chuck, who is a professional horse handler, went with Tony and me to our new donkey pasture and he gave me and Tony some tips about how to take care of our two, new, seven month old, Libra, male donkeys, Roy and Gabby. Roy and Gabby are half brothers and are precious. By the time Chuck, Tony and myself had discussed everything there is to know about donkeys, Kinky had talked Rosie and Gerald into adopting two of our dogs. Rosie adopted Callie and Gerald adopted Maizy! Kinky, our Gandhi-like figure, is really incredibly great about getting people to adopt our dogs. We sometimes call him our used dog salesman. Then Lamar and his beautiful daughter, Nell arrived!

As soon as they arrived and everybody had introduced themselves, Kinky gave Lamar and Nell a tour of our ranch. Lamar and Nell couldn't wait to meet all of the animals. Nell was thrilled when she saw the pen that we had named in honor of her father and she asked Bill, our website host and photographer, to take a picture of it for her. Rosie, Chuck, Gerald, Tony and I all got a kick out of watching Kinky giving them the tour. One by one he introduced Lamar and Nell to all fifty-one of our dogs. He told them each dog's name and why that dog was here.

Nell and Lamar now have the title for being the most enthusiastic people to ever visit our ranch. They absolutely loved it and we absolutely loved having them here. Neither, Nell or Lamar seemed to mind going into the pens and having the dogs jump on them or get them dirty. They were having too much fun playing with them and our dogs were having a blast. Nell wanted to adopt everyone of our animals, but told me later that she couldn't because she is still going to college. She even told me when we were down looking at the donkeys, that I was living her dream and that she was going to do anything that she could to help us. Lamar was just as enthusiastic as Nell if not more so. He loves animals and told us that he was totally impressed with the ranch and would help us anyway that he could. Talk about two great people! As Kinky says, "They are two fine Americans."

After about two hours of visiting and laughing, Kinky needed to get back to Echo Hill. After he left the ranch with Rosie, Chuck and Gerald, Lamar and Nell stayed for about another twenty minutes outside visiting the animals and then they left. After they had left the ranch, I told Tony that we sure were awful lucky to have Kinky as our Gandhi-like figure, because his friends are the cream of the crop when it comes to good people.
