I'm a plein-air artist, chasing after the exciting
challenge of painting on location, in hopes of capturing the
spectacular yet subtle hues of nature.
My motto is "Have Palette, Will Travel"
and I have painted in Monteserrat, Dominique, Jamaica, Bahamas,
Hawaii, Mexico, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Russia,
Africa, Australia and Texas.
In 1970 1 was introduced to Big Bend National
Park, Texas and I fell in love with the Chihuahuan desert and
its inhabitants. I try to spend at least one month a year down
there, painting the mountains and sunrise and maybe a local
bar and dance scene at night or a group of friends playing music
around a campfire under those desert stars.
Painting on location I get wrapped up in the
serenity or excitement of the subject and we become one. I paint
my direct feelings on to the canvas.
The locals often comment on my ability to capture
the very light and soul of the place and this is the highest
compliment I can receive.
Three artists who have inspired me through
their lives and works are Claude Mo-n-et, Vincent VanGogh and
Keith Richards.
"Copper's paintings are more than detailed
reproductions of pretty scenes, they are a moment in her life.
To walk through her gallery at her home in Texas is like walking
through her private family album, and there is a story to be
told about each work." (The Highlander 1982)
Copper has won awards and been honored with
one-woman shows. Her works are exciting and colorful, reflecting
her joy of life.
