Dwight
Yoakam Concert!
"Save
One Dog. Save The World."

Saturday, March 25th, Floore Country Store, in Helotes, Texas, was rocking
and I do mean Rock'in, with a capital 'R'. What a night!
For hours, people stood in lines that stretched over two miles long to
come to our benefit. The entire Helotes Police Department had been hired
for the night and they were great with the crowd! Talk about good vibes.
Everyone there seemed to be in high spirits for the night and very anxious
to see our concert. You could just feel the excitement and electricity
coming from all directions. There had been a possibility of rain forecasted
and we were all holding our breathes and I was secretly saying a lot of
short little prayers. Kinky told me before leaving the rescue ranch with
MSNBC and Ted Mann, "Don't worry, Nance. It is out of our control
now. The Lord will provide." And trust me, he did. Big time!
The weather turned out perfect as did our concert.
The doors opened at six o'clock and the clouds disappeared. On a scale
of one to ten measuring the crowd's vibes, we were already hitting at
a level of six before the concert had even started. Lone Star Beer, who
is a major sponsor of our ranch, had just had a special pen built for
our "special needs dogs," had provided their own band, "Two
Tons of Steel," to kick off the concert. They pushed the level of
the crowd easily up to an eight within minutes. They were fantastic and
the crowd was loving it. Then, "The Derailers," took the crowd
even higher. Two more notches, We are talking, a ten and it's not even
eight o'clock yet. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Then, Joe
Ely came on stage and blew everyone away when he sang, "You A'int
Nothing, but a Hound Dog." The crowd was roaring. He took the level
to a twelve. Next, came Ruth Buzzi, The Incredible Hulk, Little jewford
and Kinky. They were hilarious, of course. Now, we are talking, thirteen.
I started getting nervous that something was going to happen. This was
too good to be true! Then came, "The Geezinslaw Brothers," who
were as great as always. The crowd couldn't get enough of them. Now, we
are talking a level fifteen. At ten O'clock, Sammy Allred introduced DWIGHT
YOAKAM! That is all it took. The crowd would of gone thru the ceiling,
if there had been one, with applause and I am sure that people in San
Antonio, which is about twenty miles away, heard them. Dwight walked out
on stage and the rest is history. He out performed himself. He had the
entire crowd standing throughout his concert. He pushed the level higher
with each song that he sang. When Flaco Jimenez joined him, I almost fainted.
Flaco was awesome. He and Dwight topped off the evening, leaving the crowd
at a level thirty-seven, which I am sure must be a state record for any
concert in Texas. In San Antonio, they say, "Remember the Alamo."
Well, in Helotes, Texas and all over the United States, they are now saying,
"Remember the Dwight Night."
The ranch wishes to thank everyone who came to our
concert and those who support us year round. We also wish to thank our
major sponsors, Don Imus, MSNBC, Nickelodeon, Animal Planet, Hill's Pet
Nutrition, Lone Star Beer, American Airlines, Chicago Tribune, Envirosafe,
Justin Boots, KJ-98 and The Ranch 95.1, Jeff and Mary, Don and Carol,
John McCall, Jo and Reece, B. Bemelmans, Frank and Susan, Brian, Bill
Hageman, Dori and Nancy N. for helping us, "Save One Dog. Save The
World."
